Company Profile

Meridian is a climate and energy strategy advisory firm. We work with private firms, government and public interest organisations to develop solutions across the energy transition landscape.

We help clients thrive in the face of complexity and uncertainty with our sophisticated financial, business-economic, scientific, policy and regulatory analysis. Our advanced skills-sets range across engineering, mathematics, economics, climate and energy policy, and financial disciplines, bringing cross-sectoral experience to our work.

We leverage our extensive individual and collective experience as professionals in Southern Africa, combined with robust local and international networks, to stay at the forefront of current developments in the energy sector and beyond. Our small, highly skilled team includes senior energy sector specialists, energy engineers and regulatory and climate economists active in the South African energy space since the early 1990s.

Our most recent work is focused on South Africa’s power supply crisis and energy transition. We provide power system modelling, regulatory and competitive market reform advisory for government, advice for energy sector investors on market-entry strategies, assistance to regulated entities, and financial expertise in pricing and tariff litigation, carbon pricing policies and instruments and low-carbon transition planning. We are thought leaders domestically and internationally in climate and transition finance.

Our Values

In the face of complexity and uncertainty, Meridian delivers an agile but rigorous approach to analysis and innovative, interdisciplinary experimentation. We interrogate, understand and accurately frame the problem we are trying to solve in partnership with our clients, providing a focussed, solution-based approach.

We pride ourselves in our ability to bring market-leading in-house energy system modelling and financial analysis to the challenges our clients face. Our nimble team and flexible approach mean we can rapidly develop and test results and strategic insights with clients, based on a wide range of scenarios.

Meridian builds robust, collaborative relationships and partnerships in its areas of expertise. We place a high value on trust, openness and integrity. We work hard to nurture, maintain and expand our relationships, and actively seek alternative perspectives to enhance our collective understanding. This value system has positioned us as trusted advisors and thought partners to senior government and commercial stakeholders in relation to energy, infrastructure, climate policy, finance, and strategy development.
