Nicholas van Doesburgh
Nicholas is a climate policy & energy analyst at Meridian Economics. He holds a Master’s degree in Climate Change and Sustainable Development from the University of Cape Town, with a research focus on the complex challenges developing countries face as they seek to align economic development objectives with increasing climate-resilience.
At Meridian, Nicholas works at the intersection of energy and climate policy, with a focus on South Africa’s ongoing transition towards a more competitive power market and a low-emissions electricity system. His work spans electricity market design, renewable-energy integration, carbon pricing, environmental attribute tracking, electricity pricing and distribution reform, and transition pathways for emissions-intensive industrial facilities.
Nicholas’s analytical capabilities, paired with his research experience at the nexus of South Africa’s climate, energy, and industrial policy, contribute to Meridian’s deep insights into the evolving electricity sector and its intersection with broader development issues.
