Nicholas van Doesburgh

Nicholas has a background in Environmental Science and International Relations with a Master’s in Climate Change and Development from UCT’s African Climate and Development Initiative. His Master’s thesis examined the historical political-economy dynamics underpinning South Africa’s high-emissions, low-employment development pathway. Since then, his research has focused on identifying institutional and power constraints to effective climate policy implementation while exploring the potential for green industrial and energy policies to support South Africa’s just energy transition. Nicholas’s work on South Africa falls within his broader interest in the complex challenges developing countries face as they seek to align economic development objectives with increasing climate-resilience.
