Rachel Calaz
Rachel holds an Honours degree in Chemical Engineering and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Data Science at the University of Cape Town. Her interests include numerical simulation and optimisation, with a particular focus on renewable energy and power systems modelling. She works extensively in this field through both her academic studies and her role at Meridian Economics.
Rachel has a strong interest in data science and the application of advanced computing and machine learning methods to analyse large datasets. Her Master’s thesis, Reducing the computational demand of power systems models through time sampling techniques, integrates her practical experience with PyPSA at Meridian Economics with machine learning methodologies developed during her postgraduate studies.
