Project Overview

Funded by Agora Energiewende, Meridian undertook a power system modelling project in collaboration with the CSIR to provide an evidence base, including quantitative investment costs and short-to-medium term critical interventions, for South Africa’s policy makers to facilitate a ‘net zero’ power system transition. The project built on a 2020 study determining the cost of additional CO2 emission mitigation in the SA electricity system to define and unpack the net zero concept culminating in a 2023 report on achieving net zero in South Africa’s power sector.
