This power systems analysis investigated the economics of decommissioning Eskom’s older coal fired power stations and curtailing part of its mega-coal plant construction programme, whilst maintaining security of power supply. It concludes that such an intervention results in a financial saving for Eskom and is likely required in any attempt to restore Eskom’s solvency.
