Nicholas van Doesburgh
Nicholas has a background in Environmental Science and International Relations with an MPhil in Climate Change & Development from UCT's African Climate & Development Initiative. His Master's thesis examined the historical political economy dynamics underpinning South Africa’s high-emissions, low-employment development pathway. Since then his research has focused on identifying institutional and power constraints to effective policy implementation while exploring the potential for a green industrial policy to support South Africa's just energy transition. Nicholas's work on South Africa falls within a broader interest in the complex challenges developing countries face as they seek to align industrial development objectives with increasing climate-resilience.
